Activity:

  1. Define complex characters. Then, list the qualities that make Chris Kyle "complex."
  2. Are these characteristics represented well in the movie? Or, does he seem "flatter" or "less complex" in the movie?
  3. Why do you think the movie chose to open with Kyle behind the lens of his sniper rifle rather than his childhood?

  1. 1. Complex characters are the changes the character experiences because of their actions. The qualities that make Chris Kyle complex are that he is smart, strong, brave, and proud.
2.These characteristics are represented very well in the movie. He doesn't seem "flatter" or "less complex" in the movie.
    3. I think that the movie chose to open with Kyle behind the lens of his sniper rifle rather than his childhood because it was a kid he was killing and when he killed the boy it reminded him of when he was a child.

  2. 1. Complex characters are made thew the events that happen in the book or the movie. Chris Kyle's qualities are made by all the different events that he went threw some that I would give him is strong and brave.

    2. Yes I think that they are represented well because he is the sheepdog which shows he is brave and strong. I think its the same in the book and movie they don't really change his character in the movie or the book he's pretty much the same in both book and movie.

    3. Cause it gave a good transition from what he is previously doing and then shows his childhood so you can get a theme and then it goes back the the sniper rifle and you can see how the theme is tied in threw out the movie.

  3. 1) A complex character is the character that experiences action, and can see them from all different dimensions....

    2) These characters are represented very well in the movie. I do not think that they are "flat" or "less complex". An example of a round character is his dad, his dad didn't want his other son to go in the army.

    3) I think the movie chose to start out with Kyle behind the lens of his sniper rifle because it was showing what Kyle was doing and not just shooting deer when he was a kid.
