For today, please "live tweet" the third and final presidential debate. Pay close attention to ethos, logos, pathos, and any logical fallacies ("false logic") that appear in Donald Trump's and Hillary Clinton's rhetoric. Use the comments section below.
Lastly, who do you think won?
Trump won
ReplyDeleteHmmm...are you a seer Andrew?
Deletesome patriotic huh
ReplyDeleteThe pin incident?
Deleteshe must of deleted the email that told her to wear it before she read it
DeleteVery funny Keon!
DeleteDidn't shake hands.
ReplyDeleteYes! That's kind of a big deal!
DeleteI agree! They did in the last debate, but for some reason they didn't in this one.
DeleteThey didn't shake hands like they did in the last debate...
ReplyDeleteI think they only did in the first debate
DeleteI believe you're right Amber. At the second debate, I think they shook hands after the debate was over and when they were greeting the crowd. I'll need to check...anyone know for sure?
DeleteIt is getting more intense now, maybe that's why
DeleteHas anyone noticed how much higher Trump's mic is for this debate?
ReplyDeleteMaybe people on social media noticed that, and they changed it. Or maybe he adjusted it so he looks bigger and more powerful.
DeleteTrump is feeling really confident that he is going to become president
ReplyDeleteTrump: "I truly believe [Clinton being elected] won't happen."
DeleteDoes Trump seem more composed and calmer at the beginning of this debate?
ReplyDeletei was thinking that
DeleteYes Trump seems calm for now, until he decides to start speaking over Hillary.
DeleteHe does seem a little quieter
DeleteHe's calm until he disagrees with Hillary
DeleteTrump seems calm this debate
ReplyDeleteHe did not take his redline before the debate thats why
Deleteritalin
Deletedoubting the supreme court?
ReplyDeleteguns don't kill people, its the person handling the gun
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. How does this idea effect our second amendment?
Deleteyou just said you support the 2nd amendment now your going against your own words
ReplyDeleteAndrew, can you put a quote here that shows Clinton's hypocrisy? Add quotes to your observations so that I can give you a high score on RL1, "I can use evidence to support my ideas."
DeleteThe mic is a little to high this time.
ReplyDeleteYES! And, Trump can't stop adjusting it during this debate.
DeleteYeah he keeps messing with it
DeleteTrump says people are upset with things Hillary says when really more people are upset with the things he saying.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, Cheyenne. Can you put a quote with this observation? Or, add quotes to your observations on this thread? I'd like to give you a high score for RL1, "I can use evidence to support my ideas."
DeleteGreat point.
Trump says "People are upset with Hillary because of the whole email incident."
DeleteDid Trump's comments about the "states" making choices about Roe v. Wade make sense to you? Here is part of the transcript:
ReplyDeleteWallace: I'm asking you specifically would you-
Trump: If they overturned it, it would go back to the states.
Wallace: But what I'm asking you, do you want to see the court overturn it? You just said you want to see the court protect the second amendment, do you want to see the court overturn-
Trump: If we put another two or perhaps three justices on, that is really what will happen. That will happen automatically in my opinion. Because I am putting pro-life justices on the court. I will say this. It will go back to the states and the states will then make a determination.

Trump: "...rip the baby out of the womb of the mother." WHY does Trump use the word "rip" here? Is that a necessary word choice? Do you think Trump is using pathos of some kind?
ReplyDeleteHe is trying to make it sound worse.
DeleteHe uses the word rip because he doesn't know any better vocabulary to use.
DeleteTrump saying "rip" really makes his comment inappropriate and sound way worse then it should.
DeletePathos: This makes people scared and worried about the thought of abortions, because he used horrid words to explain it.
What does Clinton mean when she says, "scare rhetoric" about Donald Trump's comments about "ripping babies" from women?
ReplyDeleteTrump is making obortions sounds so awful to try and scare people to support him they are not good but he blows it wayyyy out of proportion
DeleteAbortion
DeleteTrump says, "I think its terrible if you go with what Hillary is saying." He didn't say how it is terrible, he only rambled on about abortion in a very gruesome way.
ReplyDelete"If you go with what Hillary is saying, in the ninth month you can take baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby."
ReplyDeletePathos: this scares people into going with Trumps opinion.
Ethos: This makes Trump credible because people might get the same opinion or feeling too.
Hillary: "Well, first of all, I support the Second Amendment." a couple seconds later...: "I think we need comprehensive background checks" Thats just saying you don't really support the second amendment.
ReplyDeletePathos, not having a strong border makes people feel scared/worried.
ReplyDeleteTrump uses pathos when he is talking about the families who have lost loved ones to illegal immigrants by connecting with them.
ReplyDelete"Bad hombres?" Why does Trump use the term "hombres?"
ReplyDeletePathos: Trump talking about needing to have a border because "illegal" people have killed people. He tried to make people feel scared and worried.
ReplyDeletePathos: The fact that we don't have strong borders could be scary to some people.
ReplyDelete"build the wall, stop the drugs" Trumps logic, (logos)
ReplyDeleteTrump thinks that by building a wall he will keep all the drugs and bad things out. (logos)
ReplyDeletePathos: Trump begins talking about how we need to have a stronger border, to keep the "bad bad guys" out. However, many would disagree especially if they have family members who are immigrants. This would make one feel angry or upset.
ReplyDeleteYes, many people would get very upset if they had family members who are immigrants. But, others may follow his thoughts and his plan to create a stronger boarder. He also doesn't state how he plans to keep the "bad bad guys" out or even how he is going to successfully create this "boarder."
DeleteLogos: Trump believes that building a wall will keep everything bad out including drugs. "Build the wall, stop the drugs" He strongly thinks that this will work.
ReplyDeleteLogos: Trump believes that by building a wall this will keep all the drugs and "bad" people/things out. What if the "bad" things are already in the country and are here legally not immigrants? What could be done then? We have more to worry about than just what's behind this wall Trump talks of.
ReplyDeleteTrump is credible for saying "build a wall." (ethos)
ReplyDeleteWhen trump talks about all the people who are trying to get citizenship in america and are doing it the "right way" when others are just coming illegal he connects with the people doing it the "right way" Logos
ReplyDeleteTrump said, "you're the puppet" to Hillary just to get his point across.
ReplyDeleteLogos: Trump thinks that building a wall will keep out all illegal immigrants and that it will also make our country safe.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think either of them are credible, if anything Hilary would be considered credible. She's the only one who actually makes sense and answers the questions with complete sentences and correct use of the words.
ReplyDeleteI agree... Trump uses filler words in order to fully speak his mind in a way that doesn't make sense to anyone else.
DeleteTrump talked about building a wall all of the time and he is credible for it because its all that he talked about. Ethos
ReplyDeleteA lot of people will follow Trump and his opinion with building the wall because it is very well known when people think of Trump. His thoughts and opinions of the wall are also getting stronger because he wants to get his point out to everyone. (Ethos)
ReplyDeleteThe guy at the table seems like he's having fun trying to get a word in with them two.
ReplyDeleteThat makes Trump and Hillary look powerful stating many of their thoughts or even irrelevant remarks towards each other. (ethos)
DeleteEthos: Trump is credible for good plans with the economy because he is a good business man and has had success.
ReplyDeleteLogos: "People who work full time shouldn't still be living in poverty" - Hillary Clinton
ReplyDeleteBuilding a wall will open up plenty of jobs for everybody living on unemployment that just don't want to do anything.
ReplyDeleteTrump mocks Hillary (pathos) making Hillary seem stupid.
ReplyDeleteTrump seems to get very personal when talking to and about Hillary. Explaining what her husband did wrong when he was in Presidency.
ReplyDeleteHe really goes too far with his comments, I agree.
DeletePathos: Hillary is connecting with the middle class saying they won't have tax increases making them feel comfortable and reassured with her economy plans.
ReplyDeleteHillary has credibility (ethos) having a husband that had been president.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that 100%. I believe that she is more credible for that reason, as lots of people (not saying all) really appreciated Bill Clinton and liked what he had done for our country.
DeleteEthos: Barack and Michelle Obama are with Hillary Clinton. Since they are credible it makes Hillary Clinton more credible.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of that until I read this. Michelle's explanation on the "bad, and "crucial" things that Trump said, really made Hillary more credible, especially from all of the women Trump hurt.
DeletePathos- Hilary is trying to make people feel confident and happy with her saying that she's not gonna have tax increases and not gonna add to the countrys debt.
