Bell Ringer Activity:
For today, please "live tweet" last night's debate as we watch Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton debate each other's politics. Use the comments section below.
I noticed that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were nice to each other shaking hands, and Hillary said, "how are you Donald?" This isn't going to last long...
Trump can't even begin to have a view on middle class because he has never actually worked for a living, he's too concerned about the big companies thats all he can think about.
Here is a great opinion piece from The LA Times on Trump's audit: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-trump-tax-returns-presidential-debate-20160927-snap-story.html
Good point Ashlyn. It's easy to have a lot of criticisms of what's wrong with this country. It's *NOT* easy to have a plan. Notice how many times each candidate references a plan that he/she has.
Trump seems to disagree with Hillary's points that she has made, except all he says is "wrong", no backup information as to why it would be considered wrong.
I noticed that after Hillary gets done speaking, it is Trumps turn. He always refers back to what Hillary has said just to try and top what she talked about.
Thank goodness Lester Holt pointed out that "stop and frisk" was ruled as unconstitutional because it is a form of racial profiling. Can you guys believe Trump is arguing that "stop and frisk" is an acceptable form of policing?
While I certainly don't agree with everything Trump says, I do agree that certain populations in this country have been poorly treated by our politicians. This kind of empathy may be a good example of why Trump is able to get so many voters. He's saying something everyone can agree with--a "glittering generality" that sounds really, really good--and we, as voters, see what we want in our presidential candidate by his non-specific, empathetic language.
Trump tried to make Hillary feel bad about the debate... but Hillary got back at him by saying that she is prepared to be president "and thats a good thing." Seemed prepared, but it worked...
Hillary just deliberated Trump to a point where he had no idea what to even say. She was waiting just to say that she stayed home and prepared herself mentally and physically to become president.
Agreed! Also, did you notice that "secretary" is a feminized term? Like, it's meant to put Hillary in her place and make her seem less capable? I may be reading too much between the lines, but "secretary" is not a politically correct term. Today, we say, "administrative assistant."
No, because those words just fill in what he is saying. They don't explain everything he is saying. I noticed that he repeats words to make them stronger. He also doesn't explain how he plans to do things...
I love that Mr. Feezer (our math teacher) is checking Elijah on his grammar! Elijah, you are always making me laugh. You mean "their faults," right? :)
Trump: "Not global warming like you and your president think." Isn't Obama Trump's president too? Gosh, he needs to learn some possessive pronoun rules.
How does Hillary not have the stamina? She seems to have a lot of experience, and she is confident when she talks. What kind of "bad experience" is he talking about?
trump2016!!!!
ReplyDeleteI noticed that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were nice to each other shaking hands, and Hillary said, "how are you Donald?" This isn't going to last long...
ReplyDeleteThey make pretending to like each other look so easy.
ReplyDeleteThe first lie wasn't even five minutes into the debate...
ReplyDeleteTrump doesn't say HOW he is going to do the things he says...
ReplyDeleteTrump says he wants to create jobs like ronald reagan
ReplyDeleteHillary has a good point about the difference between the wealthy and the not so wealthy.
ReplyDelete1 million small loan??
ReplyDeleteBoth of them like to avoid the question and just talk about nothing
ReplyDeleteIs all Trump cares about is his fathers "small" loan from many years ago?
ReplyDeleteLie.. he does NOT want Hillary happy..
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Trump's arm ever gets tired
ReplyDeleteHe isn't confident with what he is saying, it is his distraction. He doesn't have anything better to say.
DeleteTrump can't even begin to have a view on middle class because he has never actually worked for a living, he's too concerned about the big companies thats all he can think about.
ReplyDeleteTrump, stop interrupting Hillary!
ReplyDeleteI like how Trump interrupts Hillary, yet he has nothing intelligent to say. Just interrupts so she can't speak her words and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteInterruption after interruption..
ReplyDeletehillarys botox were on point last night
ReplyDelete"excuse me" ha
ReplyDeleteAlready fighting..
ReplyDeletechildish
DeleteDonald tries to pull Hillary's confidence down by blaming her for everything, but it isn't working very well.
ReplyDelete"That is just not accurate" ..... good comeback
ReplyDeleteTrump seems to think that he needs to get his words across by yelling, simply so no one can hear Hillary.
ReplyDeletethey sound like an old married couple arguing
ReplyDeleteSTOP talking over each other..
ReplyDeleteTrump.. get over yourself
ReplyDeleteTrump doesn't let Hilary speak but when she finally gets a word in she doesn't answer the question
ReplyDeleteHillary just smiles at Donald, because he has nothing important to say to her.
ReplyDeletePoor Lester... trying to go to the next question...
ReplyDeleteWOOOOW
ReplyDeleteTrump likes to spend most of his time arguing
ReplyDeleteTrump: "We are in a big, fat, ugly bubble!"
ReplyDeleteTrump: "You are going to see some very bad things happen." #thirdgradevocabulary
ReplyDeleteWonder if Obama likes the Trump courses.....?
ReplyDeleteTrump: "Essentially, financial statements of sorts...the forms that they have." Does this sentence MEAN ANYTHING?!
ReplyDeletewow trump actually stopped talking when lester was saying something to him
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too Elijah. I wonder why he'll stop talking for Lester and not Clinton?
DeleteHere is a great opinion piece from The LA Times on Trump's audit: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-trump-tax-returns-presidential-debate-20160927-snap-story.html
ReplyDeleteTrump interrupts way too much to the point where its very rude. Hillary doesn't at all really...
ReplyDeleteeven when he is reminded he talks when hillary is talking
DeleteAgreed! "That makes me smart" is probably the worst example of that kind of interruption.
Delete"That makes me smart"
ReplyDeleteWhy is it ok for Trump to say, "that makes me smart" when Clinton points out he doesn't pay federal taxes?! #absolutecorruptioncorruptsabsolutely
ReplyDeleteHow do you take the fifth?
ReplyDelete"di dithgretful"

DeleteI wonder what Hillary's thinking #thinkingface
ReplyDelete("I'm so glad he's saying all this stuff and making me look better.")
DeleteTrump: "I have a tremendous income. I say that not in a braggadocios way...our airports are like they are from a third world country."
ReplyDeleteTrump brags too much.
ReplyDeletesiscraceful?
ReplyDeleteHow would debates change if candidates had to cite the resources that they claim?
ReplyDeleteHillary waits her turn to talk, while Trump talks and interrupts whenever he feels like it.
ReplyDeleteDid Hillary invite one of his architects just so she could make that point?
ReplyDeleteWrong... why?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean "wrong?" What part are you talking about Elijah?
DeleteDid you guys catch that? Trump has filed bankruptcy six times!!!!! Why do we think he has so much "ethos" (credibility) as a business manager?????
ReplyDelete"i built an unbelievable company"- for the tenth time thank you trump
ReplyDeleteAnd just from such a small loan too!
DeleteHow does Donald plan to do all of this? He doesn't explain HOW... just what he is planning to do.
ReplyDeleteGood point Ashlyn. It's easy to have a lot of criticisms of what's wrong with this country. It's *NOT* easy to have a plan. Notice how many times each candidate references a plan that he/she has.

ReplyDeleteTrump seems to disagree with Hillary's points that she has made, except all he says is "wrong", no backup information as to why it would be considered wrong.
ReplyDelete"I am going to get to Pennsylvania Avenue one way or another"
ReplyDeleteI just noticed that!
DeleteOMG...Trump just plugged the opening of his new business on Pennsylvania Ave (next to the White House). This is like watching an informercial....
ReplyDelete"We have to have law and order. When we don't have it, we don't have a country." #thirdgradelogic
ReplyDeleteTrump sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but really he isn't answering the questions being asked...
ReplyDeleteI noticed that after Hillary gets done speaking, it is Trumps turn. He always refers back to what Hillary has said just to try and top what she talked about.
ReplyDeleteGood point Kameron. He's always *responding* to Clinton, not starting with his own points. I hadn't noticed this part of his rhetoric.
Delete#trumpdoesntknowwhatheistalkingabout
ReplyDeletewrong
DeleteWrong? What do you mean Henry?
Delete#nietherdoeshillary
DeleteI was joking because thats something Trump would say
DeleteThe crime rate did go way down from "Stop and Frisk" however, the shooting rate increased.
ReplyDeleteI did NOT know that. How interesting....
Deletehttp://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/nypd-stop-and-frisks-drop-99-percent-shootings-increase-brooklyn-article-1.1905456
DeleteThank goodness Lester Holt pointed out that "stop and frisk" was ruled as unconstitutional because it is a form of racial profiling. Can you guys believe Trump is arguing that "stop and frisk" is an acceptable form of policing?
ReplyDeleteThese are "baddddd people" #greatlogictrump
ReplyDelete"Badddddd people" makes him sound like a bleeting sheep or goat. I don't want to be sassy, but.....
DeleteThey actually agreed on something?!
ReplyDeletesurprising
DeleteDid trump just say he agreed with Hillary
ReplyDeleteWe need a timer that dings every time Trump says, "bad."
ReplyDeleteI agree with Hillary, we need to keep guns out of the hands of those who cannot control them.
ReplyDeleteFirst budget only go in as proposals.... Would Hillary try to keep it in there or is it easy to cut the funding?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think Trump looks like he's getting tired?
ReplyDeleteMaybe annoyed?
DeleteI noticed that.
DeleteHe looks tired all the time. Just his facial features.
DeleteHillary explaining her point on gun control has finally showed a plan of action to help the issue, rather than both of them just talking about nothing
ReplyDeleteHow can you refute that argument... "I think you agree with me, but cannot say"
ReplyDeleteIs Trump really trying to make Hillary seem like the racist one...?
ReplyDelete"nope your wrong murders are up" nuff said
ReplyDeleteLike when you go and visit your first black church..... And visit Dr. Carsons childhood home.
ReplyDeleteRUDE...
ReplyDeleteHow does staying home have to do with anything Trump is talking about?
ReplyDeletegot him coach
ReplyDeleteHillary just owned Trump.
ReplyDeleteShe was also prepared to say that.
ReplyDeletetake a seat trump
ReplyDeleteShe wanted to make the point that she is prepared and Trump is not
ReplyDeleteyou guys are hating on trump and I'm not saying i like him but hillary is no better
ReplyDeleteWhile I certainly don't agree with everything Trump says, I do agree that certain populations in this country have been poorly treated by our politicians. ReplyDeleteHillary just deliberated Trump to a point where he had no idea what to even say. She was waiting just to say that she stayed home and prepared herself mentally and physically to become president.
ReplyDeleteWhy is he repeating himself so much??
ReplyDeleteShould have said "that I got him to give the birth certificate and then questioned it for 5 years because I didn't want to believe it"
ReplyDelete"I really did a good job" Why haven't you thanked me Lester?
DeleteDoes anyone else think that Clinton looks really happy/satisfied when Trump says certain things?
ReplyDeleteShe definitely is laughing inside her head with some of the words that comes out of Trumps mouth.
DeleteHe is so self-confident and cocky...
ReplyDeleteCould have said over the last 3 weeks.
ReplyDeletewe're screwed either way
ReplyDeleteLanguage! (Sad teacher face)
DeleteBoth of them should not be talking about the other one lying
ReplyDeleteTrump keeps calling Hillary "Secretary Hillary" like she will never be anything else
ReplyDeleteGreat point!
DeleteAgreed! Also, did you notice that "secretary" is a feminized term? Like, it's meant to put Hillary in her place and make her seem less capable? I may be reading too much between the lines, but "secretary" is not a politically correct term. Today, we say, "administrative assistant."

ReplyDeleteI took my cues for this debate from your debates with Obama
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to attach a picture?
DeleteSounds like your talking about yourself Trump, talking about "terrible disrespect."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mememaker.net/meme/ok-its-not-funny-anymore....-where-are-the-real-presidential-candidates/
ReplyDeleteShould debate microphones be cut off at the time limit?
ReplyDeleteFor Trump at least!
DeleteHow will you handle the cyberattacks? Trump: "Listen, I was endorsed by all of these people most of us have never heard of"
ReplyDeleteGood one, Bryan! I wonder if these are the same as the "200 admirals and generals" Trump describes a few minutes later?
DeleteSettled with no admission of guilt...... How much did it cost to not admit guilt?
ReplyDeleteA small loan of 1 million
DeleteJust so everyone knows, that amount in 1973 is worth over $5.5 million today.
DeleteThe microphones are different heights and i am sure Donald trump will have a big fit over it and make a big deal out of it
ReplyDeleteThey are *significantly* different. I'm glad Mr. Feezor told us about this at the beginning of class.
Deletehttp://www.cnn.com/2016/09/27/politics/hillary-clinton-donald-trump-broken-mic-debate/
wrong
ReplyDeletewrong
ReplyDeletewrong
ReplyDelete"Wrong...Wrong...Wrong"
ReplyDeleteTrump say, "WRONG, WRONG, WRONG"
ReplyDelete"wrong" x3
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to talk about Trump's repetition of the word, "wrong!" It is very meaningful when we discuss his "rhetoric!"
ReplyDeleteThat's all he says because he wants to interrupt Hillary any way he can and share the word that Hillary is wrong about him...
DeleteClinton: "Not be alienated or pushed away as some of Donald's rhetoric..."
ReplyDeleteTRUMP: "I'm a business person. I think really well. I have common sense."
ReplyDeleteLIES
DeleteDefinitely a problematic statement! What do you think he was trying to do with making this statement?
DeleteHe was trying to make people think he is credible, smart, trustworthy, and responsible to be president.
DeleteHow much sarcasm should a presidential candidate use in a debate?
ReplyDeleteTrump: I am all for NATO Just after he said he has not looked into it much?
ReplyDeleteWhen Hillary and Obama formed ISIS.... Was this at the beginning of her career like he said...
ReplyDeleteTrump: "we have to knock the hell out of ISIS."
ReplyDeleteHas anyone noticed how much Trump uses filler words like, "essentially," to fill his responses? Does it give him more authority?
ReplyDeleteNo, because those words just fill in what he is saying. They don't explain everything he is saying. I noticed that he repeats words to make them stronger. He also doesn't explain how he plans to do things...
DeleteDoes Trump ever not use his hands?
ReplyDeleteI think he should be forced to sit on them during the next debate....
Deletehes gotta try to make them look bigger
Deletewhats wrong with using your hands while you talk?
Deletetrump does it to distract people from what he is saying
DeleteIt's a distraction from the words he is saying...
DeleteDid Hillary Clinton just "shimmy"--shake herself from side to side--while rebutting Donald Trump's comments?
ReplyDeleteAll Hillary can do is laugh at Trump
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/09/28/the-debate-s-real-winner-resting-hillary-face.html
DeleteWhy do both of the candidates play the blame game so much?
ReplyDeleteBecause nothing is ever either of there faults its always someone else's
DeleteDid you mean over their (looks left)
Deletesounds like someone i know ;P
DeleteI love that Mr. Feezer (our math teacher) is checking Elijah on his grammar! Elijah, you are always making me laugh. You mean "their faults," right? :)
DeleteCheck out Hillary's record on wars....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mintpressnews.com/hilary-clintons-israel-iran-iraq-libya-record-indicates-shes-a-proven-warmonger-213129-2/213129/
Great source! Students, check this out!
Deletecan't we all just get along
ReplyDeleteit's not that easy for them. They are fighting for the better spot.
Delete"I want to give a lot of things just to respond"
ReplyDeleteTrump: "Not global warming like you and your president think." Isn't Obama Trump's president too? Gosh, he needs to learn some possessive pronoun rules.
ReplyDeleteTrump needs to listen to Lester, and not talk over him.
ReplyDeleteIf she does have the look then why does she need a step stool?
ReplyDeleteAnd a 70 year old man has stamina?
ReplyDeleteHow did Hillary and Bernie vote for the Iraq war??
ReplyDeletehttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/apr/11/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-iraq-war-vote-presidential-campaign
if the whole world knows the plan to defeat isis how are we gonna defeat them?
ReplyDeletetrump is smart by not putting it out there.
How does Hillary not have the stamina? She seems to have a lot of experience, and she is confident when she talks. What kind of "bad experience" is he talking about?
ReplyDeleteWhen did Trump say that pregnancy was bad for business??
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/trump-2004-pregnancy-inconvenience-employers-n580366
Clinton: "This is a man who has said that 'women are an inconvenience to employers.'" Trump: "I never said that."
ReplyDeleteFACT: HE SAID IT: http://www.snopes.com/trump-pregnancy-inconvenient/
be nice!
ReplyDeleteTrump: "I stood up to Rosie O'Donald" Megyn Kelly was enough to scare me off the stage though....
ReplyDelete"I will absolutely support her"
ReplyDelete"I want to make America great again"
ReplyDelete
